Uvex Skeleton Helmet

Uvex skeleton helmets which are manufactured in Germany. The cost of these helmets range from 400 – 500 USD, depending on the cost of raw materials at the time (mainly the coat of carbon fiber). To inquire about this helmet, it is best to contact uvex directly. Manufacturing time varies, and can take up to three months.

Czech Helmet

Czech slider Hubert Lichman has developed a helmet similar in style to the Uvex helmet. Fully certified and built by the same manifacturers of Czech hockey helmets, these helmets run slighlty cheaper than the Uvex style.

Z1 Paragliding Helmets

The Italian Z1 paragliding helmet gained popularity after the 2002 winter games, thanks in part to its light weight and flip-up visor. The helmet is the least expensive as compared to the Uvex and Czech style helmets. The safety of the helmet he been called into question recently, leading the FIBT to issue a statement regarding helmet legality and safety in the sport.

Safety and Legality

As it currently stands, nations are permitted to make their own desicions as to whether or not a certain model of helmet can or cannot be worn. The Z1 is currently legal in the USA (other countries needed. Please add). Despite recent incidents, many athletes continue to safely use this helmet.
