Lake Placid is one of two combined Bobsleigh/skeleton/luge tracks located in the united states. The 1500 meter track is located in the Verizon Sports Complex at Mt. Van Hoevenberg.

The track has 20 curves, 19 of which are timed for skeleton (curve 20 is used only for bobsled).

Lake placid old track is also located in the Verizon sports complex, and was used for passenger rides until the 2008 season when it was closed, assumedly permanently.
Lake Placid is home to the 2009 Bobsled and Skeleton World Championships.
Lake Placid is a village in the Adirondack Mountains in Essex County, NY USA. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 2,638. Lake Placid is named after this adjacent lake: Lake Placid. The Village of Lake Placid is near the center of the Town of North Elba and is southwest of Plattsburgh.

Athletes arriving in Lake Placid for a competition will most likely stay in the Olympic Training Center, located at 96 Old Military Road. There are a few other hotels and hostels toe village is a year-round resort, it is likely most known as the site of the 1980 Winter Olympics, and particularly the USA-USSR hockey game, the " Miracle on Ice," when a group of American college students and amateurs upset the heavily-favored Soviet national ice hockey team 4-3 and two days later won the gold medal. The victory is sometimes ranked as one of the greatest in American sports history.
