Staehli and Pikus-Pace victorious in Weltmeisterschaft

Four heats of slippery goodness resulted in a victory for the Swiss Miss Gregor Staehli who finished an ass-whooping 1.58 seconds ahead of the competition, including silver medalist Eric Bernotas and bronze medalist Zach Lund.  Staehli, a two time world champion, firmly remains the most decorated slider of all time. He is also the personal hero of US skeleton athlete Stokes Aitken, who is returning from a year off.

Staehli will now disappear from skeleton for 3 years and return in 2010 to win a bronze medal in the Olympics.

In the women's event, Noelle Pikus-Pace bounced back from a 2006 injury to win the championship. Noelle finished a less impressive 1.56 seconds ahead of Olympic Gold medalist Maya Pederson, and likely 2007 World Cup Champion Katie Uhlaender.

The athletes will somehow find the courage to remain in St. Moritz for a few more days to compete in the team event.  Meanwhile, Pace has decided to travel on to Cesana for the upcoming World Cup event, seeing as the last time she competed with a bobsled, the result didn't turn out so well.

Did anyone hear the commentary on SPEED channel after the race? Apparently, some US athletes "like to spread their legs" and "have a hard time being on top". Interesting.

Yeah, well I'm just pissed that Zach and Eric gave away the U.S secret of "weaving" down the track! All the nations knew about the "pushing" and "bumping", but now they know all three! I guess the cat is out of the bag on all that superior coaching and training that us U.S athletes get! The weaving is key!

Actually Gregor is going to coach me for the next few years so that he can have some competition in 2010. Frankly, he is tired of being able to stop for a Wiessbier or two half way down and still dominate. He is starting to feel a little bloated!
